A Capital Expansion is essential for the Y's ability to continue to strengthen our community by offering more healthy, safe and positive indoor activities year-round. Your generosity will have a transformational impact in accomplishing this major project for the Island.


Mission, Impact & Needs

Currently, over 12,000 people benefit annually from the Y, but our facility is at maximum capacity with a shortage of available space to serve the growing needs of our community. The YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard Capital Expansion is our opportunity to make a large-scale impact on the Island, as it will nearly double the footprint of the Y. The addition of these facilities combined will have the ability to impact hundreds more youth and seniors.


The Expansion will add

  • Multi-functional Gymnasium and Elevated Track
  • More Group Exercise Space and Expanded Health & Wellness Center
  • Rental Space for Other Organizations, including Arts & Dance
  • Recreation and Sports for Youth, Families, Adults & Seniors
  • Special Community Events
  • Dedicated Space for Elder Care, Functional Fitness & Rehabilitation
  • Dedicated Spaces for Youth, including expanded After School, Summer Camp, and Child/Infant care


Community Impact

  • The 32,400 sq. ft. Y was built with the hope of serving 15% of the Island community, and we now serve 25-30% of the Island community.
  • After School, Summer Camp, and Swim programs are at capacity, serving over 300 youth with 30-50% receiving Financial Assistance.
  • Over 200 seniors currently served through
    aqua and exercise programs tailored to their needs.

Needs Met With Expansion

--> Capital Expansion will provide an additional 29,000 sf of multi-functional year-round program space.

--> More programs for youth, from infancy to school age, including daycare, youth sports, the arts and dance.

--> Senior population expected to triple from 2010 to 2030, and the Expansion would allow for needed care, activities, and rehabilitation.
