Makos Spring Season,  April 2nd – June 15th

(no practice April 16-20)


Open to Swimmers ages 6-18

The Y’s year-round competitive swim club for all youth. The team is coached by Rainy Goodale and offers vigorous work-outs based on high energy, technique focused swims on personalized challenging intervals. The team is part of the South Eastern Massachusetts Swimming League and includes the option to compete in USA Swimming Meets.  The Makos are broken into three different work-out groups, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, designed for the advancement of each swimmer.  See website for level descriptions.


Practices run Monday– Friday 4:15-5:30pm. 

Swimmers can chose to swim two to five times a week, which ever days work best for your schedule! Prices listed on Spring Season Registration Form 



Skill Level Descriptions for Mako Swimmers 


Swimmers must be able to swim backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and some butterfly
4x50yards freestyle on an interval of 1:30 per 50 yards
3x100yards in IM order (no time limit but must finish)
We will work on learning the butterfly and breaststroke. Perfecting streamline and the efficiency of their backstroke and freestyle. We will work on starts and flip turns as well.


Swimmers must be able to swim all 4 stokes.
4×50 freestyle on a 1:00 interval
4×100 IM order on a 2:15-2:30 interval
4×100 freestyle a 2:00 interval
We will learn pull-out turns for breaststroke. Also, work on perfecting all 4 stokes, starts and flip-turns


Swimmers must be confident to swim all 4 stokes.
4×50 freestyle on :50 interval
4×100 IM order on 1:45 to 2:00
8 to 10 100yard freestyle test on 1:30-1:40
We will work on the efficiency and perfection of all 4 stokes, starts, and turns.

ORCAS Special Olympics Swim Team

Special Olympics of MA Application for Participation, and YMCA Registration Form must be completely filled out and returned to us, including doctor’s signature, before an athlete can participate.

Masters Swimming Open to Swimmers 18+

Structured fitness swimming workouts that include stroke refinement and set design. The workout is adapted to the goals of the individual swimmer, while providing a fun yet challenging atmosphere. This class is perfect for those that want to cross-train for fitness, to improve their swimming ability, or train for a triathlon or other swimming competition. Enrollment ongoing.
