Programs

We believe we need to demonstrate what we’re capable of accomplishing, so we’re already offering programs for the Island’s youth.

This year we extended the Creative Choices After School program to a full-year program, running in four sessions with enrollment at almost eight hundred children. A variety of Island adults instructed children in everything from creative writing to cooking and baking, model rocketry, creative movement and sports, a babysitting clinic and a variety of art, music and theatre classes. Transportation was provided to students who had enrolled in courses at other schools promoting an intermingling of kids from different schools.

We’re especially proud of our Youth Initiative, targeting youth from 14 to 20. On March 12, the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard opened the Island’s first teen center in 20 years. As one of the local newspapers wrote:

“After more than a decade of talk and promises…it was ultimately the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard that came through in the clutch. They succeeded where others failed for one simple reason: They did not give up.”
