A YMCA on Martha's Vineyard

We have great hopes – all carefully grounded in reality. The programs will be healthy and fun, the building a real community gathering spot.

It will be for everyone, regardless of age, sex, religion, ability or race. It will be part of the educational, cultural and recreational corridor growing up around Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

You’ll take your kids to the pool, your mother to aqua-aerobics, yourself to the café.

It will be ambitious but self-sustaining. It will be a reflection of what Islanders have been telling us for more than a decade they want and will support.

This is something missing on Martha’s Vineyard, a place for the community to gather, a place of our own.

Why a Y?: "As a child I learned to swim at the Y in New York and attended Y summer camps. As a teenager I attended my first national Y conference in St. Louis, MO, and represented the Y on several occasions. My children attended YMCA camps. The Island’s children and families need this very important community service."
