WINTER 2008
This is the time of year when you will be asked by many worthwhile organizations for financial support. We’d like to tell why we think the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard is deserving of your consideration for that support.
As you know we have had tremendous success in our efforts to secure a permanent home for the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, and we expect to break ground in 2008. But our story doesn’t begin with a new building. The commitment to fulfill our mission began in 2004 when the first high school student walked into our Teen Center, and it continued to grow when parents realized that they now had a safe, affordable after-school option for their children. The adult community has also realized the potential of our programming through our initial yoga and language classes.
Our motto of “Building strong kids, strong families, strong communities” comes true every day in our current “Y Without Walls.” While we look forward to a new home, we are so proud of what we are able to accomplish though programs such as the Alexandra Gagnon Teen Center, Treasure Our Island After-School Program, Cool Cooking-Healthy Eating, and ABLE (Adolescent Balanced Living Experience). These programs are either free or require a nominal fee from the children who attend, and the after-school program fees are based on a sliding scale. In order to provide these programs we rely on the generous support of patrons such as you.
If we’ve convinced you that a donation is a wise investment please take a moment to send your check in today or click the Donate Now button on this website
We will be keeping the community informed on the progress of our new home and the success stories that will fill that new facility. Until that time we would like to extend best wishes to you for a happy, healthy, and peaceful NEW YEAR.
Warm regards,
John Clese

Executive Director
