Chuck Hughes was born in Minnesota, where he learned to swim at a YMCA and remained active in Y youth organizations throughout high school. He established a business in Washington, D.C., that he owned for twenty-five years and sold in 2001 and moved to the Vineyard that same year with his wife, Linda, and three children. Chuck remains on the boards of three organizations in Washington, including a very large adoption agency. He lives in Vineyard Haven.
Mark Baumhofer
Vice President / Chair, Facilities Committee
Mark Baumhofer is the owner of Baumhofer Builders. He has lived on Martha’s Vineyard since 1977 and started his business in 1981. He has long been interested in the YMCA and became involved with the board in 2004. He and his wife, Kimberly, have three daughters and live in West Tisbury.
Judy Crawford
Vice President / Chair, Programs Committee
Judy Crawford is an educator, environmentalist and community activist. She grew up in Connecticut where she attended classes at the Westport YMCA, later serving on its board of directors for many years, with responsibility for youth programs. Her children all attended the Y and each served as president of the Leader’s Club during their senior year. Judy’s career as an educator included classroom teacher, administrator, and graduate professor. She has been a consultant with numerous State Boards of Education and with the National Education Association. On the Vineyard, Judy has served as Chair of the West Tisbury Conservation Commission and President of the League of Women Voters. She was on the founding Board of the Island Community Chorus, currently serving as its President. She is well known as a moderator for LWV Candidates’ Nights, Martha’s Vineyard Commission forums, and issue-centered town meetings. She and her husband, Tad, have five children and ten grandchildren. They live in West Tisbury.
Joan Chaput
Treasurer / Chair, Finance Committee
Joan Chaput is President and Chief Financial Officer for UpSource Inc. an integrated inbound/outbound customer service center located in Nova Scotia. Prior to joining UpSource in 2001, Joan was the Chief Financial Officer for the Share Group and outbound tele-services company serving national progressive non-profits. Joan has been visiting the island since 1980 and made Martha’s Vineyard her full-time residence in 1997.
Michael Dutton
Secretary / Chair, Personnel Committee
Michael Dutton is an attorney with an estate planning, probate
administration, and multi-family practice. He moved to Martha's Vineyard in 1992 and is a member of the Oak Bluffs Board of Selectmen and the Chairman of the town's Housing Committee. He also serves as the Governor's appointee on the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Stewardship Council. Prior to opening his private practice, he worked as a trust banker and trust counsel to several banks. He also joined Martha's Vineyard Hospital for three years as the chief development officer and director of general services. Michael is married to Karen Dutton and has a seven-year-old son, Caleb, and a 13-year-old step-daughter, Meaghan. They live in Oak Bluffs.
Cindy Doyle has been coming to the Vineyard since 1967 and became a year-round resident in 2000. She and her husband, Rob, moved here from Providence, Rhode Island, where she had a private psychotherapy practice, was co-founder of the Angell Street Wellness Collaborative, a group of traditional and complimentary healing practitioners, and president of Amos House, a soup kitchen and shelter. Cindy is the mother of two daughters, Mollie and Erin, and loves swimming, yoga, sailing and gardening. She has been involved with the YMCA here since 2003. She lives in Vineyard Haven.
Fred Fournier is a landscape designer/contractor and the owner of Landscope, Inc. He has lived on Martha's Vineyard for 31 years and has owned his business for 28 of those years. He grew up in Connecticut, where he was active in the Y as a youth. He is married, and has four children, two Labrador retrievers, and lives in Edgartown.
John Moffet, a native of Momouth, Ill., relocated to Edgartown after graduating from DePauw University in 1973. John, who managed the Kelley House in the 1970s and 1980s, now manages the Edgartown Reading Room as well as being the front man for L’Etoile Restaurant. John’s involvement with the YMCA began in grade school, where he competed on Y swim teams and continued as a competitive swimmer through high school and college. He is married to Julie Williamson Moffet. They have a five-year-old daughter, Caroline. He lives in Edgartown.
Georgia Morris is a playwright and scriptwriter of documentary film and television whose shows have been broadcast on ABC, PBS, AMC and TNT. She is a founding partner of Galen Films, Inc. in Vineyard Haven. For the past ten years she has also co-directed a theater education program, the 4th Grade Theater Project, at the Vineyard Playhouse. She and her husband, Len, have lived on the Vineyard almost twenty years and have raised two children, Sam and Lily, here. Georgia has been involved with the Y project from its inception in 1994. She lives in Vineyard Haven.
Maria Metters moved to the Vineyard in 1997 to operate her family business Bowl & Board in Vineyard Haven with her husband Garry. She grew up in Hingham, Mass. where her father founded the company Bowl & Board. She summered here as a child and now plants the roots here for her three children Shane (11), Devon (8) and Oliver (6). They thrive here with what the Island has to offer, especially the ocean surrounding them where they have become avid swimmers, sailors and kayakers. The family lives in Vineyard Haven where the children attend the Tisbury School.
Tina, an Island native, grew up on the Island and founded two restaurants, The Roadhouse and Cafe Moxie. She is the author of Vineyard Harvest, a quintessential Island Cookbook that profiles local growers. At present she is the General Manager of Plum TV and a member of SAC, the student advisory committee of the West Tisbury School. Tina lives in West Tisbury with her husband and two young sons.
Margaret “Peg” Regan has been principal of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School since 1999. She has an extensive educational background, as both a teacher and assistant principal in Hyannis and as an assistant principal in the Mill Valley, California, school system. Her husband, Jack, is a teacher at the Chilmark School. They live in Oak Bluffs.
Bill and his wife Julie moved from Muncie Indiana, their home for 40+ years to Martha’s Vineyard in 2006. They have three grown sons. He plays golf and tennis, does some fishing and is learning to relax. He has become an active Counselor in the SCORE organization on the Vineyard. Bill’s background is basically in industry but he has served in many capacities in the volunteer world. He graduated The University of Michigan in Civil Engineering in 1961 and became registered as a “PE” in 1970.
As a volunteer he has been the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rotary club, Chairman of the Ball State University Foundation, Secretary of the Ball Brothers Foundation, and a director of many not-for-profit organizations, including the YMCA, the Muncie Children’s Museum, and United Way.
Susan Trees has been coming to Martha’s Vineyard since 1980 as a summer resident. For 25 years, she has worked in politics as a public relations specialist and lived in both Washington DC and Boston. For the Clinton White House, Susan traveled around the world representing the President as an advance person. Prior to this she worked for ABC sports and wrote for sports publications. Ms. Trees has two children and lives in West Tisbury and Washington DC
